My Laptop collection. 2000s Thinkpads running
Puppy OS
, and a T420 (2011) running Debian 11.
I highly recommend Puppy OS if you own anything very old and obsolete.
It runs straight out of RAM, making it very compact and fast no matter how weak your PC Is. The distro is around 500MB or less in size.
The Debian pictured is an old screenshot, I've since switched to Debian 12 with aweosmeWM and have heavily customized its UI.
Tiling window managers are extremely comfortable, fast, and efficient, and not to mention a fantastic way to learn more about GNU/Linux basics and how your desktop environment works.
Albeit it's rather time consuming and quite the effort, even though aweosmeWM is very beginner and mouse friendly,
it still took me 4 full days to make it functional and appropriate for my needs on my first run.
Not something I recommend jumping into if you're still brand new to Linux. For beginners,
I suggest your first distro to be Debian
(the more FOSS-friendly option)
or Ubuntu (the option with telemetry). Right click to view the images in full size.
